Keep a first aid kit on hand for emergencies, and know your horse’s normal vital signs.

The list of equine emergencies we’re prepared to handle includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Colic
  • Choking
  • Swellings, lacerations, and punctures
  • Eye injuries
  • Acute lameness
  • Illness (including fever, loss of appetite, dullness, and diarrhea)
  • Seizures
  • Problems with pregnancy
  • Foaling difficulties
  • Sport horse injuries
  • Serious wounds

During any urgent situation, please monitor your horse’s vital signs. Document the following vital signs and be prepared to share them with the veterinarian on call.

  • Monitor heart rate
  • Respiratory rate
  • Rectal Temp
  • Capillary refill time
