Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy Can Help Horses Recover and Heal.

Shockwave therapy is non-invasive and typically well tolerated by horses.

Extracorporeal shockwave (ESWT) therapy uses sound waves to stimulate healing in wounds, ligaments, tendons, and bony structures. Shockwave is non-invasive, well-tolerated, and helps speed recovery and quality of repair of the affected tissue.

Studies have shown that shockwave therapy reduces inflammation and pain and promotes healing. It can be especially effective where ligaments attach to bone or in horses with an arthritic condition. ESWT can benefit recovery for:

  • Bowed tendons
  • Suspensory ligament injuries
  • Stress fractures
  • Splint bone fractures
  • Bone spavin
  • Navicular syndrome
  • Vertebral spinal pain/kissing spine
  • Sacroiliac conditions (Hunter Bumps)
  • Back pain
  • Bucked shins
